INTO CRAFT OUR LIVES Tokyo Festival
Once a month in Autumn INTO CRAFT OUR LIVES appears at the Aoyama Farmers Market in front of the UNU building. The market brings together unique craft artisans for visitors to meet and buy their special creations. High value and selectively curated items like wood cutting boards, jewelery, pottery and clothing are presented. Taken together with the weekly Farmers market it makes for an exciting day to spend an Autumn weekend in Tokyo.
TOKYO FARMERS MARKET
November weekends brings newly harvested rice in various polished to the market. New harvest rice is sweet and moist making it a seasonal treasure. Autumn vegetables like squash, hiraitake, kale, lotus root, celeriac and potatoes are currently available at the market. Autumn fruit like Wakayama oranges, apples, persimmon, grapes and green lemons are available. This is one of the best times of year to shop for produce to inspire your cooking.
Green Basket Farm sold out of their 2nd harvest of Japanese olive oil. Luckily we managed to obtain a couple of bottles. Expressing vibrant fruit, bitter and spice flavors it is a fine example of first press Japanese extra virgin olive oil. We love o drizzle this 2024 vintage over fish, salads and soups!
Kikusumi Tokyo knife shop has restocked 2 series from our Sakai craftsman. Silver Ghost and Black Ghost Knife collections are currently available in limited quantities. Our blade artisan is one of the best in the world at forging – we combine those blades with spectacularly crafted handles. We also have a good selection of hammered blades called tsuchime. Most of the knives are stainless steel so easy to maintain and sharpen.
Every week we set up a sharpening station for visitors to watch and learn. If you need some tips or lessons we do offer that as well. Everyone is welcome in the friendly market atmosphere where the omotenashi spirit is most alive.
See you at the Aoyama Farmers Market this weekend!
