Perfect for those who enjoy farm fresh vegetables, fruit and vegan food outdoors under the summer sky. Every week there are top farmers, craft artisans and food trucks gathering in front of the UNU Building offering some of the freshest and highest quality ingredients in Japan. Each vendor is an expert in their specialty so learning is always possible here.

Every year from June to mid-August, Mr. Kikushima of “Kikushima Saido Higashi Branch” and Mr. Nakamura of “Tokudo Fam” deliver freshly picked sumos from Yamanashi every week. Aren’t there many people who are looking forward to the varieties that change every season?
This year, the heat came earlier than usual, and there was a lot of damage caused by “burn” (sunburn) that discolored the surface of the suples. After hearing that I couldn’t put it in the store due to a problem with the appearance, I thought about whether I could do something as a farmer’s market, so I decided to pre-order and sell it (pick up at the market venue) as a “sumo for processing”!

Healthy Soil’s booth is lined up with colorful summer vegetables such as tomatoes, eggplants, and Manganji togarashi. This week’s recommendation is cherry tomatoes, which have been sown since February and grown over time. Because the timing of the harvest is delayed to the last minute until it is fully ripe, it is said that it is as sweet as fruit. In order to feel the sweetness more, the point is to cool it thoroughly until just before eating. Because it’s this hot season, let’s enjoy seasonal summer vegetables full of flavor!
