Aoyama Antique Festival
We are often asked by visitors what the is the best place to buy antiques and vintage craft items in Tokyo. Usually once a month that place is the Aoyama Farmers Market in front of the UNU building. The market has multiple offerings for visitors. High value and selectively curated vintage items like carry bags, kitchen cutlery, tableware and glasses are present. Clothing items and movie posters can also be found. Combined with the regular market it makes for a fun day to spend an Autumn weekend.
This weekend brings the first rice of the new harvest season to market. Autumn vegetables like squash, maitake, peppers, kale, potatoes and mixed salad greens have started to appear at the market. Autumn fruit like Wakayama oranges, apples, persimmon, grapes and green lemons are available. This is one of the best times of year to cook.
It is easy to compose a weekend dinner here at the market as one can procure both fresh produce and complimentary ingredients like spice and oil. Green Basket Farm will bring their 2nd harvest of Japanese olive oil to the market. Ever improving as roots delve deeper into the ground, this is an exciting and highly limited seasonal product. It differs from typical olive oil found in markets in that it is a fresh and green olive oil. This means it retains the vibrant, fruitiness of the first press. Super looking forward to the 2024 vintage!
Kikusumi Tokyo knife shop now has the Sakai forged blades of the Silver Ghost and Black Ghost Knife collection availabl. Our blade artisan is one of the best in the world at forging – we combine those blades with spectacularly crafted handles.
See you at the Aoyama Farmers Market this weekend!
