FURU series is part of KIKUSUMI’s ongoing sustainable craft project to connect modern lifestyles with exceptionally crafted kitchen tools. Urushi is created by first harvesting tree sap which it can be used clear, darkened or colored.  Colored lacquerware can be seen in Japanese restaurants as bowls, cups or chopsticks.   Fuki Urushi refers to clear lacquers that can be light or dark.  When applied to kashi wood the beautiful grain shines through casting an enchanting warm hue akin to rosewood.  The result adds beauty and durability to the wood handle with little impact on the environment.
