BLACK SHADOW SERIES
The BLACK SHADOW collection is 100 % forged and handcrafted in Japan for those who love the craftsmanship and values of the artisan tradition but prefer western style handles. Traditional & modern forging combined to produce high quality steel accented with natural woods and detailed refinements. BLACK SHADOW series of knives are built with sustainably harvested woods that will last a lifetime. BLACK SHADOW captures the best qualities of the forging spirit in a knife that is authentically artisan in every detail. It offers the cook a remarkably precise cutting tool with a rustic yet refined aesthetic.
BLACK HANDLES
We created these as mono-handles in black so the focus on the blade finishing shines through. Black pakkawood is often used in Japan used for western handle knives and kitchen tools. The texture is smooth and tactile. The wood surface can be finished beautifully as it becomes glossy when polished. Pakkawood is resistant to cracking and is less likely to warp or be deformed. Three stainless steel rivets bolt the handle to the full tang blade. A high polish stainless steel collar connects all the parts together securely. The finishing is highly detailed and refined. Seams are smooth in transition from wood to steel for maximum comfort.
ERGONOMIC
Yo western handles are ideal for both left and right hand cooks. They fit the contours of the hand which is why they have superior ergonomics. Flexible grip holds are another reason – whether straight cuts or peeling ‘katsura’ cutting the octagonal handle beats the western grip handles on skill performance. Ergonomic & ambidextrous make them the ideal handle crafted by Kikusumi artisans.
FINE DETAILS
Each Sakura octagonal mono-handle is finished with a tradtional yakking (burned) logo just like it was done back in the Edo period. Blades receive 3 beautiful kanji engravings that express its orgins. 菊 炭 KIKUSUMI 銀三 G3 土佐TOSA
